The 10 year Strategic Plan for the Far North Resilient Communities Charitable Trust has just been published. It outlines the focus, goals and direction of the Trust for the coming decade. Informed by a range of organisations, individuals and the Trustees, with hopes to bring collaboration and collective focus in the coming years.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
“This 10-year strategy has been developed for and by the Far North Resilient Communities Charitable Trust (the Trust). The Trust acknowledges and is grateful to be part of a much wider ‘eco-system’ in that numerous organisations and individuals are contributing to promoting and growing a resilient district and region.
With this in mind, the Trust humbly offers an overarching vision with key goals for a potential future of resilience in action within the Far North. This has been developed through review and incorporation of various pieces of strategy work undertaken by other organisations within the region, along with a kai focused stakeholder hui.
This strategy outlines what the Trust sees as its key role and focus over the coming years, which is, practically, to develop a Headquarters providing a sustainable, central, secure base for Trust activities, including being a distribution hub, community centre and knowledge (sharing) hub. The aim is to ultimately demonstrate and promote mana motuhake – self-reliance (localism) in action.
It also promotes the idea of the Trust as a wayfinder, navigator, connector, and advocate.”
As part of the Trust’s Strategic Plan an initial Action Plan focused on Kai – Food Abundance was developed. This incorporated some of the Trust’s long standing goals and initiatives, including a central Hub and Distribution Network, alongside other important community projects and initiatives focused on improving food availability and quality.
The plan includes encouragement and support for community gardens, regenerative agriculture, education, wild kai, resource recovery, food co-operatives, accessibility, connecting local growers and suppliers and more.
