Biodiversity, Wildlife and Communities – Flora and Fauna
Korowai O Te Ngahere, Cloak of the Forest is a Sustainable Biodiversity discussion document written in collaboration by Flora and Fauna of Aotearoa, Eco-Land Ltd, Te Korowai Arahi Charitable Trust and The Far North Resilient Communities Charitable Trust.
The document lays out ways that communities can manage forest environments and other natural landscapes sustainably, while also creating jobs based on supporting the natural environment and wise resource recovery.
Through social enterprises and co-operatives, we can build sustainable pathways forward that work towards restoring and protect New Zealand’s biodiversity. This can be done in a way that respects the land, the water and all our taonga species – including people and communities. The focus is a holistic approach towards ecosystems and relationships between all flora and fauna, including native and introduced species.
This work is dedicated to the communities of Northland, and there are hopes future social enterprises will be developed, creating meaningful jobs and benefits to nature.
